Everyone is out to be "green" nowadays, and for a good reason! Being environmentally conscious is healthy for you and your surroundings! Being "green" is actually super simple and yet... I know many people who don't even think twice about these tips! (Adapted from my dear LUSH)
(Oh and no, I don't work for them or am being paid by LUSH or any company mentioned, I just really like the products and what they stand for.)
- Use solid, minimally packaged products
Choose bar soap over shower gels or liquid soap. Use shampoo bars instead of bottled shampoo. These are better for the environment because of minimal packaging and because they contain no water they do not require preservatives... it's better for you too!
Never heard of shampoo bars? They are super convenient, great for traveling and last longer than a typical bottle of shampoo. (Unless you purchase those bottles the size of milk jugs.

) Mine usually last me around 3 months if I wash every other day.
Burt's Bees Rosemary and Mint Shampoo Bar $6.00
LUSH Shampoo Bars $9.95
No use-by date usually means that the products is heavily preserved. (Read the ingredient labels and you'll see...)
More preservatives down the drain are bad for the environment.
- Buy long lasting products
Look for personal hygiene products with extended life spans such as toothbrushes or razors. If you only replace the head you are throwing less away.
I'm especially bad about this one when I wash my face at the sink, TURN IT OFF! Watch all that water shoot out and you aren't touching it! It adds up on your bill. Some people even go as far to turn on their shower only at the beginning and the end.
- Re-use old grocery or shopping bags in your trash can
I use re-usable shopping bags most of the time, but when we do get a hold of little plastic bags we save them for kitty litter and lining our bathroom trash cans.
- Clean your mirrors with old newspapers and cleaner
I clean my mirror a LOT (hair spray, splashed water, all kinds of gunk get on it!) so I keep glass cleaner under the sink. Using a paper towel every time is wasteful, everyone gets newspaper circulars in the mail, use them to clean your mirror! Oooh. Shiny.
Whatever you do have in packaging, recycle it! I don't have a recycling center near me so I can't. If you do, take advantage of it! Always make sure you rinse everything out thoroughly before you recycle so nothing contaminates the rest.
- Use your towel more than once
Yes, more than once. If you hang it up and let it dry (don't wad it up on the ground), it wont smell the next day. Doing this saves you laundry, which saves water... which saves your money.

- Go recycled when possible!
Certain bath products such as bath poufs are made of plastic and must be thrown out sooner or later... purchase a recycled one! I have one, it gets my lather job done just fine.
Bubble bath by candle light. Yes, saving energy... and relaxing! Possibly romantic too.

For all the married ones, take a shower with your spouse! It'll save water! Yeah, that's the ticket!
